I was commissioned to cover Art Basel Miami Beach 2015 and Frieze Art Fair 2015 by WGSN's Visual Merchandising Department. At the fairs, I took photos of work that would inspire window and in-store displays, lighting, fixtures & fittings, props and overall artistic concept. I then grouped the artworks into trends to show that a particular style, material or scale of object would translate into visual merchandising. I focused mainly on 3D works as well as textural or structural innovations.
I completed a short course in The Business of the Visual Art World with Renée Pfister at City University London. I love to keep up with the developments in the art market and regularly attend art fairs, talks and exhibitions to increase my knowledge of both historical and contemporary art. I am available to cover art fairs, events and exhibitions from different perspectives.
I specialize in creating consumer reports based on qualitative research. Throughout my career to date, I have been able to pinpoint the most significant consumer shifts in particular sectors that can help clients and companies to innovate and respond accurately to these changes.
Here are some examples of consumer reports. I worked with WGSN Mindset, to create a consumer report for a Spanish denim mill. I researched the denim industry, analysed trends and devised solutions for the client. I also collated images to complete the visual aspect of the report. The client requested regional information from the US, Europe, China and Japan, which I delivered, focussing on regional cultural nuances and recommendations for each region.
I was commissioned by Beautystreams to create a consumer report around Hybrid innovations in the beauty industry. I covered areas such as wearable technology, content creation, DIY beauty products and cross-industry collaborations.
While working for WGSN, I created a luxury consumer report, detailing the newest priorities for high net worth individuals. I looked at the preference for experiences, the desire for behind-the-scenes access and knowledge, as well as the continued support of craftsmanship.
Lecturing & Workshops
I regularly lecture at several third level institutions including London College of Fashion (LCF), UCA Epsom, Sheffield Hallam University and Limerick School of Art & Design (LSAD). My lectures and tutorials have been directed towards fashion students in disciplines such as design, media, marketing and promotion. I specialize in teaching students how to approach trend forecasting; explaining best research practices, creating mood boards and showing how to approach future strategy and branding.
I have also participated in some workshops with teenagers at Somerset House. The pictures show a textile workshop undertaken to help the students express the changing urban environment.
Trend Book & App Content: Heimtextil
I worked with WGSN Mindset, to create content for Heimtextil trade show 2016. I wrote articles and sourced images to create this content based on the future of textiles. The subject of the articles included; the use of herbs and natural materials in textiles, using textiles in therapeutic treatments, and the impact of virtual reality technology on the future of textiles and the sense of touch.
I also created the content for the app that was provided for visitors at the trade show. This required creating pathfinding content, and accurate descriptions of the items on display, as well as explaining the meaning of the physical zones of the trade show.
While working at Stylesight and later WGSN, I had the opportunity to contribute to, and create, the renowned Futurist report. Initially, I collaborated with researchers and graphic designers, to create this monthly report on various future concepts.
Later, I took on the entire creation of the report, from conception to completion. Subjects covered included, robotics, wearable technology, drones, 3D printing, materials, communications, AI, and many other innovations in technology and lifestyle. The focus was on the major developments that would have a significant impact on the future of every human being, even if some were hard to imagine at that point.
I was also a member of the core Macro trends team that developed the new trends for A/W 16/17 at WGSN. I presented my concepts at a company-wide brainstorm session, some of which were co-opted as the main concepts for the season. I then worked on the Foresight report which, at that time, was the report that introduced the four new trends of the season.
Profiles & Interviews
Throughout my career, I have recognized the power and importance of influencers, as both originators of great ideas and mentors to future innovators. While at Stylesight, I co-ordinated a number of video interviews with the likes of the late, great Jules Wright of The Wapping Project and rising music star, Petite Noir.
Latterly, I have conducted a number of written interviews with influencers in the beauty world for Beautystreams. These range from perfumers to event organizers, scientists and product developers. Shown here are two examples: Wouter Wiels of Rives de la Beauté and Jo Fairley of the Perfume Society.

Social Media Strategy & Tech Innovations
I was commissioned by the Department of Health Communications Division to give a presentation on social media trends and technology with a focus on new forms of communication and engagement. I discussed the power of platforms like Instagram and the importance of getting a message across via influencers. I also demonstrated the desire and need for video, explaining platforms like Snapchat, Vine and Periscope. I went on to present some new technology and devices that will shape the future of communication, including wearable technology, gaming and virtual reality.
Client Work: Samsung
I worked with WGSN Mindset to create a body of research to inspire the development of the Samsung S6 model. I created three themes for this report, taking different consumer sets and lifestyles into account. I explored these three themes through conceptual Macro trends i.e. lifestyle, societal and consumer trends that would influence the future desire for particular phone models. I then disseminated each trend into specific aesthetic directions for shape, materials, colour, print and pattern, and surface design. I delivered this 90-page report and presentation to a small team visiting London and then to a much larger team at Samsung's offices in Seoul, South Korea.
Tech Conference Coverage
While employed by WGSN, I was sent to cover the Web Summit in Dublin. I attended numerous talks and keynote speeches, in order to analyze and define the most important trends in digital technology, communications and marketing. I categorized the trends into four main areas discussing big data, storytelling, workflows, wearable technology, mobile payments, crowd-sourcing and customer engagement.
